Mantle Herb
INCI Name: Alchemilla vulgaris (N)
The magic herb!
Much used by Arab women to help with all the female organs..
Crush and press the leaves and use the juice for the skin.
Infusion for the bath and washing.
Tea to be drunk by women from their fortieth year to help with
the menopause.
Take two teaspoons of leaves per cup of boiling water.
Large doses can be harmful.
Parts used: Leaves. Main constituents: 6-8% tannins, bitter principles,
traces of essential oil. Used externally for its astringent healing
effect on wounds and inflamed parts (through the combined action
of the tannins with the essential oil).
Folk medicine: Used in baths, as a compress for malignant wounds
(it promotes granulation), for inflammation of the mucous membrane
in the eyes, for pelvic infections and sores on the scalp.
Skin care: Used in skin care products for its healing effects.
It is supposed to soothe, cleanse and heal dry, sensitive skin.
It reduces swellings, is good for chapped and broken skin on the
hands and feet, is a good astringent for large pores and can be
used in wrinkle creams. Used in baths, compresses, steam baths,
face toners and cleansing creams. For foot and steam baths make
an infusion using 20-30 g dried herb to 1 litre of water. For
face toners and shampoo, use 15 - 20 gm leaves per 1 litre of
water. Make the infusion by bringing to the boil and allowing
to infuse for approx. 30 minutes.
Plant lady's mantle in sun or part shade.
Step Two: Add a light application of organic fertilizer to the
planting hole.
Step Three: Set plants 18 inches apart.
Step Four: Place plants no deeper than they were growing in the
containers.
Step Five: Mulch around but not on top of the plant with 3 inches
of organic compost.
Step Six: Water well until the soil is completely moist.
Apply a light application of organic fertilizer to the top of
the soil in early spring; follow directions on the package.

Step Three: Do not water - lady's mantle is tolerant of dry soil
in summer.
Step Four: Cut off the flowering stems at their base when they
are finished using bypass pruners.
Step Five: Trim off old leaves in early spring using scissors.
Step Six: Let the flowers go to seed, and you will get new seedlings
in the soil below.
