What is SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate)
SLS is a chemical used in nearly all commercial soaps, body washes,
bubble baths, shampoos, conditioners, toothpastes and more... SLS IS
A CHEAP WAY OF PRODUCING LATHER...!
LATHER IS A LUXURY WE BELIEVE ONE CAN LIVE WITHOUT...!
SLS is a very strong commercial degreaser, it is used to clean factory floors, degrease car engines, it is a known irritant, and is used in experiments to irritate the skin to test skin calming products.
The effect that SLS has on the skin is that it strips away the natural oils produced by the skin. We have done a lot of research into SLS on the internet and I myself am concerned about the use of SLS in cosmetic products... This is just some of the information we have found, but suggest that anyone who reads this has a look for themselves...
The information we have found, links SLS not only to retarding healing a the development of childrens eyes, but causing cataracts in adults. Some reports say that it is a carsonogenic which links it to cancer...
SLS has a low molecular weight so is easily absorbed by the skin, therefore it can build up in the heart, liver and brain. SLS is a caustic cleanser that actually can corrode the hair follicle and impairs the ability for the hair to grow. SLS causes the dysfuntion of the biological systems of the skin.
What is SLES (Sodium Lauryth Sulphate
)
SLES is a biproduct of SLS and is also a known irritant.
What is MPG
(Mono propylene glycol)MPG is apparently relatively non toxic and a
mild irritant.
I am not medically trained, but this is all information easily found
on the internet and there are lots of good books about harmful ingredients
Please look and decide for yourself... One thing that is a fact is that
most major cosmetic manufacturers include large amounts of SLS/SLES
in thier products, even the ones that you think are nice and healthy,
what shocked me most was that the leading baby cosmetic company also
put in baby skin products...
Even alot of handmade and handcrafted soaps contain SLS, always ask for the ingredients. You can make nice looking, nice smelling good cleansing soaps without SLS, Although they dont produce lots of lather, I think I can live without the bubbles!!!
Other products to look out for that contain SLS... Foaming Bath Bombs...
