The
Story of Soap
Soaps has been used since a long time. The earliest evidence of
soap like products dates back to 2800BC in Babylon. Fats were boiled
with ashes to produce this ancient soaps. General use goes back
about 1000 years. The basic recipe of normal soap remains unchanged;
Fats or oils plus Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic soda) produces a hard
soap, fats or oils plus Potassium Hydroxide (Caustic potash) produces
a soft soap. Some soaps today are called 'asyndeton' bars , the
soap is replaced by synthetic detergents & others containing
animal fats.
